Will I Have Saggy Skin If I Lose Weight?

We often see people have saggy skin after weight loss. But is it inevitable? Will you get flabby skin too if you lose weight?
There is no exact answer. It depends on many factors, such as how much fat you lose, how fast you lose weight, your age, your exercise, eating.

The most important ones are how you get rid of body fat and your age.

  • If you lose fat by dieting and having weight loss pills without doing exercise, it is easy to get loose skin. Because the fat gone, but you do not do strength training to tone up muscle to help take up some space, so you may have saggy skin.
  • If you lose a large amout of fat in short time, there is high chance you will get flabby skin. This most seen case is having a fat loss surgery such as liposunction, gastric bypass surgery. Many people who have such operation will face the hanging skin problem.
  • You skin is less elastic while you become older. When you are young, your skin elasticity is good, your skin can bounce back fast, but if you lose weight when you are 40+, 50+, 60+… the elasticity of your skin become worse, so you have saggy skin easily after losing weight.
