How to tone up stomach?

My lower stomach is a little bit flabby. I have been running 40 mins a day on the treadmill, does this work? Will it help me tone up my stomach? I am looking for some other effective workouts that can help me flat my stomach faster. Any suggestion? Any other tips on how to do this?
